During my first trimester I encountered some “morning sickness” I say that in quotations for lack of a better word. Morning sickness is a joke (at least for me). It was more like evening sickness, post dinner or ALL DAY sickness some days. The term morning sickness must have been established from a male contributor because they never had to deal with such things. I did a lot of reading in order to nip morning sickness in the bud and here are my top 5 things in my arsenal against nausea:

  1. Ginger & Peach Herbal Tea : Ginger has been shown to help with nausea and IBS. It also helps to calm and sour stomach,  so having a tea with it in it is definitely beneficial for you! I bought this one because it had peach in it too. I enjoy the two flavors mixed.
  2. Preggie Pops: The flavors are all designed to help alleviate nausea and vomiting in pregnancy and in cases of motion sickness, which can occur more frequently when you are pregnant. They are designed to work by the flavoring, but also have the added benefit of helping you if you suffer from dry mouth or overactive saliva glands (ptyalism).
  3. Pregnancy Tea: Traditional Medicinals website says this: Our herbalists created this blend of supportive herbs to help tone the uterus and prepare the womb for childbirth.* A combination of raspberry and nettle leaf, as well as other herbs like alfalfa, we love this tea both for its pleasingly mild, minty taste as well as for its gentle support of a healthy pregnancy.*  I found that it really helped if I had it as soon as I felt nausea coming on.
  4. Morning Wellness Tea: Organic Morning Wellness Tea is a ginger-minty blend of organic herbs traditionally used to help prevent occasional morning sickness, pregnancy nausea, nausea and vomiting related to morning sickness. Formulated for pregnancy with settling ginger root, spearmint, peppermint, chamomile and lemon balm and a twist of orange peel. Especially comforting when every little smell is suddenly a challenge and those morning queasies often last all day long. All of Earth Mama’s organic teas are naturally caffeine free in easy to brew tea bags.
  5. Magnesium Oil Spray: Magnesium and calcium work in combination: Magnesium relaxes muscles, while calcium stimulates muscles to contract. Research suggests that getting adequate magnesium during pregnancy can help prevent the uterus from contracting prematurely. Magnesium also helps build strong teeth and bones in your baby. Since digestion changes during pregnancy, it can be difficult to absorb magnesium correctly. I read an article regarding magnesium oil and how the magnesium oil seemed to be the easiest to absorb through the skin. Magnesium is an important mineral during pregnancy, so even if you are already pregnant, it would be worth a try to lessen morning sickness.

These are just a few of the things that helped me in the beginning with nausea. I was lucky enough to only have it a couple times without any actual “sickness”. (thankful for that!!!) But I am the type of person who will try anything if it will help me feel good. So these are worth a shot for you if that’s something you’re struggling with! Always consult with your physician before you start anything new if you are worried about it being harmful to you and your babe! But, I found that all of these things seemed to help! Do you have anything that helped you that’s not listed? I’d love to hear it!
